MARY, THE HOLY MOTHER OF GOD —A— We usually greet each other “Happy New Year” on the first day of the year but more than wishing each other happiness as the new year begins there is a much deeper reason why we Christians should be happy on the first day of the fresh year. The reason being that we celebrate the Solemnity of Mary the Mother of God on the first day of the year, thus, giving us a sense of maternal protection for the entire year of our lives. The solemnity has place the life of the whole Church under the loving and motherly love of Mary. The Blessed Mother was chosen and prepared for this wonderful mission that God has given her. Although she didn’t completely understand everything because of her young and tender age, our Gospel says: “Mary kept all these things, reflecting on them in her heart.” Truly no other woman was worthy of carrying baby Jesus in her womb but the Blessed Mother, who, like what Elisabeth mentioned she is full of grace. Mary has shown a remarkable sense of humility and obedience all throughout the story of the mystery of Incarnation. She received her mission with joyful heart knowing that everything was happening because the hand of God was there. We must emulate Mary on how she submitted herself to be a special instrument of God for his plan of salvation. Finally, on the Feast of Mary the Mother of God I still wish each one of you a very happy and blessed New Year! I pray that this year be better and filled with God’s blessing for everyone.
MARÍA, LA SANTA MADRE DE DIOS—A— Por lo general, nos saludamos “Feliz Año Nuevo” el primer día del año, pero más que desearnos felicidad al comenzar el nuevo año, hay una razón mucho más profunda por la cual los cristianos debemos estar felices el primer día del nuevo año. La razón es que celebramos la Solemnidad de María Madre de Dios el primer día del año, dándonos así un sentido de protección materna durante todo el año de nuestra vida. La solemnidad ha puesto la vida de toda la Iglesia bajo el amor amoroso y maternal de María. La Santísima Madre fue escogida y preparada para esta maravillosa misión que Dios le ha encomendado. Aunque no entendió todo del todo por su corta y tierna edad, nuestro Evangelio dice: “María guardaba todas estas cosas, meditándolas en su corazón”. Verdaderamente ninguna otra mujer fue digna de llevar al niño Jesús en su seno sino la Santísima Madre, que como decía Elisabeth está llena de gracia. María ha mostrado un notable sentido de humildad y obediencia a lo largo de la historia del misterio de la Encarnación. Recibió su misión con el corazón gozoso sabiendo que todo sucedía porque allí estaba la mano de Dios. Debemos emular a María en cómo se sometió a sí misma para ser un instrumento especial de Dios para su plan de salvación. Finalmente, en la fiesta de María, la Madre de Dios, todavía les deseo a cada uno de ustedes un muy feliz y bendecido Año Nuevo. Oro para que este año sea mejor y lleno de la bendición de Dios para todos.
