5TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME—A The Sermon on the Mount is a collection of teachings beautifully written and serves as our guide on the road to holiness. In fact it teaches us how to live as disciples of Jesus Christ. On the fifth Sunday in ordinary time, Jesus calls us to be the salt of the earth and the light of the world. This metaphor is also a challenge that we need to use our gifts to be of service to others. Salt and light are essential elements not only in ancient cultures but even today. People use salt to improve the taste of food and to preserve it as well while light is important to see things clearly without which we may stumble in the dark. As Jesus’ followers we must utilize our gifts to help others improve their lives too. We must by all means be like salt which preserves and improves someone else’ faith by inspiring and encouraging them to be the best Christians they could ever be. Similarly, our light must shine to help others see things clearly. A good Christian is someone who spends time in discovering all the talents given by God and upon discovering he or she is willing to share it with others.
5 DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO —A— El Sermón de la Montaña es una colección de enseñanzas bellamente escritas y sirve como nuestra guía en el camino a la santidad. De hecho, nos enseña cómo vivir como discípulos de Jesucristo. En el quinto domingo del tiempo ordinario, Jesús nos llama a ser la sal de la tierra y la luz del mundo. Esta metáfora también es un desafío que necesitamos para usar nuestros dones para estar al servicio de los demás. La sal y la luz son elementos esenciales no solo en las culturas antiguas sino también en la actualidad. La gente usa la sal para mejorar el sabor de los alimentos y también para conservarlos, mientras que la luz es importante para ver las cosas claramente, sin las cuales podemos tropezar en la oscuridad. Como seguidores de Jesús, debemos utilizar nuestros dones para ayudar a otros a mejorar sus vidas también. Por todos los medios debemos ser como la sal que preserva y mejora la fe de otra persona inspirándolos y animándolos a ser los mejores cristianos que puedan ser. De manera similar, nuestra luz debe brillar para ayudar a otros a ver las cosas con claridad. Un buen cristiano es alguien que dedica tiempo a descubrir todos los talentos dados por Dios y al descubrirlos está dispuesto a compartirlos con los demás.
