SECOND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME ---C--- 1-16-22
SECOND SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME —C—
The Ordinary Time opened with the Feast of the Baptism of the Lord by John in the river Jordan. This also marked the beginning of the public ministry of Jesus, as he started to call and invite his disciples. The gospel on the Second Sunday in Ordinary time presented the wedding at Cana, Galilee. I want to focus my refection on two important points. First, Jesus and his disciples must have been very active in the community, that they were invited to the wedding banquet. It is customary that the bride and groom invite only people who are signifcantly connected to them. Being invited to a wedding feast gives us a clear understanding on how charismatic our Lord is. People can easily get attracted to him, like the bride and the groom, and the wedding banquet that he and his disciples attended. Second, the sensitivity of Mary to the needs of others was clearly manifested when she told her Son that the hosts ran out of wine. While it wasn’t the proper time yet for Jesus to start revealing himself to people by performing miracles in public, he was compelled to change the water into wine because of his mother’s request. Thus, we can also say that Mary has a strong impact in the life of her son. In conclusion, I am inclined to say that Mary had an important and vital role in Jesus’ ministry, while maintaining her silence and simplicity.
This week I would like to recognize the stewardship of MR. MARIO ACEDO who together with his family has been parishioners since 2003. Mario is a silent but active steward who serves sumptuous dinner to our invited priests during Penance Services. He has been doing this for several years now. He even bakes dinner rolls and serves them fresh. Our invited Priests are always well fed hence they have more energy to listen to our confessions. Thank you very much Mario. Your stewardship is appreciated. God bless you!
2 DOMINGO DE TIEMPO ORDINARIO —C—
El Tiempo Ordinario se abrió con la Fiesta del Bautismo del Señor por Juan en el río Jordán. Esto también marcó el comienzo del ministerio público de Jesús cuando comenzó a llamar e invitar a sus discípulos. El evangelio del segundo domingo del tiempo ordinario presenta las bodas de Caná de Galilea. Y quiero centrar mi refexión en dos puntos importantes. Primero, Jesús y sus discípulos deben haber estado muy activos en la comunidad que los invita al banquete de bodas. Es costumbre que los novios inviten solo a personas que estén signifcativamente conectadas con ellos. Ser invitados a una festa de bodas nos dio una clara comprensión de cuán carismático es nuestro Señor. Las personas pueden sentirse fácilmente atraídas por él como la novia y el novio en el banquete de bodas al que asistieron él y sus discípulos. En segundo lugar, la sensibilidad de María a las necesidades de los demás se manifesta claramente cuando le dice a su Hijo que las hostias se quedaron sin vino. Si bien aún no era el momento adecuado para que Jesús comenzara a revelarse a la gente realizando milagros en público, se vio obligado a cambiar el agua en vino a pedido de su madre. Así, también podemos decir que María tiene un fuerte impacto en la vida de su hijo. Como conclusión me inclino a decir que María tuvo un papel importante y vital en el ministerio de Jesús manteniendo su silencio y sencillez.
Esta semana me gustaría reconocer la administración del SR. MARIO ACEDO, quien junto con su familia ha sido feligreses desde 2003. Mario es un mayordomo silencioso pero activo que sirve una cena suntuosa a nuestros sacerdotes invitados durante los Servicios de Penitencia. Él ha estado haciendo esto desde hace varios años. Incluso hornea panecillos y los sirve frescos. Nuestros Sacerdotes invitados siempre están bien alimentados por lo que tienen más energía para escuchar nuestras confesiones. Muchas gracias mario.
