12TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME — A — This Sunday’s gospel is actually the prediction of the difficulties that the disciples will have to face as they were sent to preach the Gospel. This is within the context of last Sunday’s gospel reading when these men were commissioned to begin the mission. Jesus was just being honest to them and had no intention to sugarcoat the truth. The mission is not at all easy because they will surely experience sufferings, resistance, challenges and even rejections. In fact many people will not receive them well even within the land of Israel. Even family members will turn them away. However, Jesus assured the disciples of his support and encouragement. Despite the hardship they should “Fear no one” for surely they will be taken care of and protected by his love. In fact, the gospel used the metaphor of the sparrows being protected by the Father’s love. I can personally relate with our gospel as a priest. Along the way there were challenges, difficulties and trials but again any sufferings that are willingly accepted are very rewarding at the end.
12 DOMINGO DE TIEMPO ORDINARIO — A — El evangelio de este domingo es en realidad la predicción de las dificultades que los discípulos tendrán que enfrentar cuando fueron enviados a predicar el Evangelio. Esto está dentro del contexto de la lectura del evangelio del domingo pasado cuando estos hombres fueron comisionados para comenzar la misión. Jesús solo estaba siendo honesto con ellos y no tenía intención de endulzar la verdad. La misión no es nada fácil porque seguramente experimentarán sufrimientos, resistencias, desafíos e incluso rechazos. De hecho, muchas personas no los recibirán bien ni siquiera dentro de la tierra de Israel. Incluso los miembros de la familia los rechazarán. Sin embargo, Jesús aseguró a los discípulos su apoyo y aliento. A pesar de las dificultades, no deben "temer a nadie" porque seguramente serán cuidados y protegidos por su amor. De hecho, el evangelio usó la metáfora de los gorriones protegidos por el amor del Padre. Puedo relacionarme personalmente con nuestro evangelio como sacerdote. A lo largo del camino hubo desafíos, dificultades y pruebas, pero nuevamente cualquier sufrimiento que se acepta voluntariamente es muy gratificante al final.
