6TH SUNDAY OF EASTER —A— We continue reflecting on the Lord’s Farewell Discourse at the Last Supper. Jesus’ tenderness is expressed in the manner he encourages his disciples. He needs to uplift their spirits because soon they will witness his crucifixion which will bring all sorts of emotions to the disciples. They have to stay strong and persevering. Hence, he promises that even if he is gone they will continue to feel his presence through the “advocate” that the disciples will receive. The term “advocate” literally means ‘one who offers defense for another.’ True enough, the role of the Holy Spirit is to be their advocate in the absence of Jesus. Therefore, we can say that while Jesus needs to go back to the Father to sit at his glory, the Holy Spirit will fill up the role that Jesus will leave behind. Hence, Jesus is true to his promise that he will never leave them orphans because the Holy Spirit will remain with them until the end of time. We realize that the gospel this Sunday is within the framework of the ascension. And we are reminded that the only way to receive the Holy Spirit is to keep God’s commandments.
6 DOMINGO DE PACSUA —A— Seguimos reflexionando sobre el Discurso de despedida del Señor en la Última Cena. La ternura de Jesús se expresa en la forma en que anima a sus discípulos. Él necesita levantarles el ánimo porque pronto serán testigos de su crucifixión, lo que traerá todo tipo de emociones a los discípulos. Tienen que mantenerse fuertes y perseverantes. Por eso, promete que aunque él se haya ido seguirán sintiendo su presencia a través del “abogado” que recibirán los discípulos. El término "abogado" significa literalmente "alguien que ofrece defensa por otro". Es cierto que el papel del Espíritu Santo es ser su abogado en la ausencia de Jesús. Por lo tanto, podemos decir que mientras Jesús necesita volver al Padre para sentarse en su gloria, el Espíritu Santo llenará el papel que Jesús dejará atrás. Por lo tanto, Jesús es fiel a su promesa de que nunca los dejará huérfanos porque el Espíritu Santo permanecerá con ellos hasta el final de los tiempos. Nos damos cuenta que el evangelio de este domingo está en el marco de la ascensión. Y se nos recuerda que la única forma de recibir el Espíritu Santo es guardar los mandamientos de Dios.
