15TH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME — A — Studying the scriptures requires long hours of attentive listening in classroom discussions and an undivided attention in order to understand the teacher’s presentation. I must admit that when I was in the School of Theology there were times when I would fnd it diffcult to remain focused because some teachers had the tendency to be soporifc in their methods of teaching. However, we had a teacher who was everybody’s favorite, because he had his way of keeping all of us awake, despite the three-hour long lectures. In today’s Gospel, Jesus once again showed his prowess as a teacher. He used parables to teach some important life lessons. His technique requires the listeners to spend some time in refection in order to comprehend what he was trying to point out. Jesus was speaking about the Kingdom of Heaven which was sown on different types of soil that correspond to different types of people. There are seeds that fell on the path, rocky ground and thorns obviously are hearts of people who do not show interest in the Kingdom, while the rich soil belongs to the people who accept the Word and understand it and, therefore, bear fruit and yields a hundred or sixty or thirtyfold. What kind of soil is your heart? 

15 DOMINGO DE TIEMPO ORDINARIO — A — El estudio de las Escrituras requiere largas horas de escucha atenta en las discusiones en el salón de clases y una atención indivisa para comprender la presentación del maestro. Debo admitir que cuando estaba en la Escuela de Teología había momentos en los que me resultaba difícil mantenerme enfocado porque algunos maestros tenían la tendencia a ser soporíferos en sus métodos de enseñanza. Sin embargo, teníamos un maestro que era el favorito de todos, porque tenía su manera de mantenernos despiertos a todos, a pesar de las conferencias de tres horas. En el Evangelio de hoy, Jesús mostró una vez más su destreza como maestro. Usó parábolas para enseñar algunas lecciones de vida importantes. Su técnica requiere que los oyentes pasen un tiempo de refexión para comprender lo que estaba tratando de señalar. Jesús estaba hablando del Reino de los Cielos que fue sembrado en diferentes tipos de suelo que corresponden a diferentes tipos de personas. Hay semillas que cayeron en el camino, pedregales y espinos obviamente son corazones de personas que no muestran interés por el Reino, mientras que la tierra fértil es de las personas que aceptan la Palabra y la entienden y, por lo tanto, dan fruto y rinden. cien o sesenta o treinta veces. ¿Qué tipo de suelo es tu corazón?
