7TH SUNDAY OF EASTER —A— The Gospel on the Seventh Sunday of Easter allows us to reflect on Jesus’ high priestly prayer also called “Prayer of Consecration” as Jesus consecrates himself for his approaching redemptive death. The prayer is an elaborate meditation on the thoughts and aspirations of our Lord. He meditates on what he has to do, recommend his disciples to his Father and makes them known the Father. We observe that Jesus has the habit of looking for a deserted place to spend time in prayer. Sometimes he would spend the whole night in prayer. And in this high priestly prayer Jesus asks the Father to ‘give glory’ to him because the ‘hour has come.’ It means the hour of his own Passover from this world to the home of his Father where he came from. By the way, the glory he asks from his Father must not be understood to mean that he wants to skip the suffering but that he wants everybody to know that everything comes from the Father and returns to him. Jesus prays and hopes to give eternal life to all those whom the Father has entrusted to him. In his prayer Jesus wants eternal life for all of us. But we must realize that eternal life requires two things: knowledge of God and knowledge of Jesus Christ. People must know the Father, the only true God, and the one whom He sent, Jesus Christ.
7 DOMINGO DE PACSUA —A— El Evangelio del Séptimo Domingo de Pascua nos permite reflexionar sobre la oración sumo sacerdotal de Jesús, también llamada “Oración de Consagración”, cuando Jesús se consagra a sí mismo para su próxima muerte redentora. La oración es una meditación elaborada sobre los pensamientos y aspiraciones de nuestro Señor. Medita lo que tiene que hacer, encomienda a sus discípulos a su Padre y les da a conocer al Padre. Observamos que Jesús tiene la costumbre de buscar un lugar desierto para pasar tiempo en oración. A veces pasaba toda la noche en oración. Y en esta oración sumo sacerdotal Jesús le pide al Padre que le 'da gloria' porque 'ha llegado la hora'. Significa la hora de su propia Pascua de este mundo a la casa de su Padre de donde vino. Por cierto, la gloria que pide a su Padre no debe entenderse como que quiere saltarse el sufrimiento sino que quiere que todos sepan que todo viene del Padre y vuelve a él. Jesús ora y espera dar vida eterna a todos aquellos que el Padre le ha confiado. En su oración Jesús quiere la vida eterna para todos nosotros. Pero debemos darnos cuenta de que la vida eterna requiere dos cosas: el conocimiento de Dios y el conocimiento de Jesucristo. La gente debe conocer al Padre, el único Dios verdadero, ya quien Él envió, Jesucristo.
