TWENTY-SIXTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME —C— The gospel of Luke is regarded as the gospel of the poor because of its strong preferential option for them. Luke shows the Poor’s special spot in Jesus’ heart in fact the care for the poor is one of the themes of the gospel. The Parable of the rich man and Lazarus was addressed not only to the listening crowd but more importantly to the Pharisees. The Pharisees followed the law to the letter while forgetting the spirit it contains. Their piety was very superfcial because their words were not seen in their actions. They had no regard for the poor that they even oppressed them while doing business with them. Remember the gospel last Sunday where the Lord condemned a group of merchants who while attending worship in the synagogue were thinking on how they can cheat them. For instance, they sell low quality goods at a high price and even tampered the measuring scale just so they can increase their proft. The story of the rich man and Lazarus reminds us that we must recognize the poor as essential part of our community. It encouraged us to share with the poor the gifts God has given us. We must see the face of Jesus in the faces of these little ones!
26 DOMINGO DE TIEMPO ORDINARIO —C— El evangelio de Lucas es considerado como el evangelio de los pobres por su fuerte opción preferencial por ellos. Lucas muestra el lugar especial de los pobres en el corazón de Jesús, de hecho, el cuidado de los pobres es uno de los temas del evangelio. La parábola del hombre rico y Lázaro fue dirigida no solo a la multitud que escuchaba sino, más importante aún, a los fariseos. Los fariseos siguieron la ley al pie de la letra olvidando el espíritu que contiene. Su piedad era muy superfcial porque sus palabras no se veían en sus acciones. No tenían respeto por los pobres que incluso los oprimieron mientras hacían negocios con ellos. Recuerden el evangelio del domingo pasado donde el Señor condenó a un grupo de mercaderes que mientras asistían al culto en la sinagoga estaban pensando en cómo los iban a engañar. Por ejemplo, venden productos de baja calidad a un precio alto e incluso manipulan la escala de medición solo para poder aumentar sus ganancias. La historia del rico y Lázaro nos recuerda que debemos reconocer a los pobres como parte esencial de nuestra comunidad. Nos animó a compartir con los pobres los dones que Dios nos ha dado. ¡Hay que ver el rostro de Jesús en el rostro de estos pequeños!
