2ND SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME—A We are familiar with the call of the disciples as we read them in the Gospel. It’s their vocation to join Jesus in his redemptive mission. These are men who were called and chosen in random. They in turn followed without hesitation and had left everything not only their means of livelihood but even their own families all for the sake of the gospel. However, on the second Sunday in ordinary time we are invited to reflect on another vocation story this time the vocation of the source of all vocations, Jesus himself. John called him “the Lamb of God” to indicate that he will be the lamb of sacrifice. He should do it for others. Therefore, Jesus’ call is to be a man for others. John maintains that his baptism is lesser or inferior to the baptism of the one who is coming and recognizes that the one who is coming after him ranks ahead of him who existed before him. His main agenda is to baptize in water in order to make Jesus known to Israel. This baptism scene reminds us that by virtue of our own baptism we like John has to testify to the truth proclaiming that Jesus is the Son of God.
2 DOMINGO DEL TIEMPO ORDINARIO —A— Estamos familiarizados con el llamado de los discípulos tal como los leemos en el Evangelio. Es su vocación unirse a Jesús en su misión redentora. Estos son hombres que fueron llamados y elegidos al azar. Ellos, a su vez, siguieron sin dudar y habían dejado todo, no solo sus medios de subsistencia, sino incluso sus propias familias, todo por el bien del evangelio. Sin embargo, el segundo domingo del tiempo ordinario estamos invitados a reflexionar sobre otra historia vocacional, esta vez la vocación de la fuente de todas las vocaciones, el mismo Jesús. Juan lo llamó “el Cordero de Dios” para indicar que será el cordero del sacrificio. Debería hacerlo por los demás. Por lo tanto, el llamado de Jesús es ser un hombre para los demás. Juan sostiene que su bautismo es menor o inferior al bautismo del que viene y reconoce que el que viene después de él está por delante del que existió antes que él. Su agenda principal es bautizar en agua para dar a conocer a Jesús a Israel. Esta escena del bautismo nos recuerda que en virtud de nuestro propio bautismo nosotros como Juan tenemos que dar testimonio de la verdad proclamando que Jesús es el Hijo de Dios.
