2ND SUNDAY OF LENT —A— Today’s gospel presents the transfiguration of Jesus which took place in the mountain as witnessed by the three Apostles Peter, James and John. They witnessed this awesome spiritual event which completely changed their lives. They have come to realize in advance about the drama that would take place in Jesus’ life in Calvary. Jesus allowed them to grasp the true meaning of his death. On top of the mountain, Jesus allowed them to see who he really is and what they themselves will become when they follow him through death to resurrection. The message of the gospel has been reinforced by St. Paul in his letter to Timothy: “Bear your share of hardship for the gospel with the strength that comes from God.” Truly the Lord will manifest Himself to us if only we let Him and if we make time we can really know and experience his presence. The problem with some people is that they do not give Him the chance. Take note that Peter babbled right away that he wanted to build three tents at the mountain of transfiguration. This is the problem with some people they react right away and do things in haste when all that God is asking is to listen to Him: “This is my beloved Son with whom I am well pleased!” Yes sometimes we just need to listen and be able to know what He wants us to do.

2 DOMINGO DE CUARESMA —A— El evangelio de hoy presenta la transfiguración de Jesús que tuvo lugar en la montaña como lo atestiguan los tres apóstoles Pedro, Santiago y Juan. Fueron testigos de este asombroso evento espiritual que cambió por completo sus vidas. Se han dado cuenta de antemano del drama que ocurriría en la vida de Jesús en el Calvario. Jesús les permitió captar el verdadero significado de su muerte. En la cima de la montaña, Jesús les permitió ver quién es él realmente y en qué se convertirán ellos mismos cuando lo sigan a través de la muerte hasta la resurrección. El mensaje del evangelio ha sido reforzado por San Pablo en su carta a Timoteo: “Soporta tu parte de las penalidades por el evangelio con la fuerza que viene de Dios”. Verdaderamente el Señor se manifestará a nosotros si solo se lo permitimos y si hacemos tiempo podemos realmente conocer y experimentar su presencia. El problema con algunas personas es que no le dan la oportunidad. Tenga en cuenta que Peter balbuceó de inmediato que quería construir tres tiendas en la montaña de la transfiguración. Este es el problema de algunas personas que reaccionan enseguida y hacen las cosas con prisa cuando lo único que Dios les pide es escucharlo: “¡Este es mi Hijo amado en quien tengo complacencia!”. Sí, a veces solo necesitamos escuchar y poder saber lo que Él quiere que hagamos.
