THIRTEENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME —C—
Greetings from the Philippines! By the time you are reading this, I will be enjoying my vacation with my family which has been delayed for three years because of the pandemic. And now everything seems to be normal here in my homeland. Anyways, I hope everyone is in good shape and all is safe! See you when after a month! Over the years our community has been blessed with people who would express their intentions to serve God in our Church. It is a sign of God's blessings. However, I notice that not all of them persevere. Some would disappear after a few months while others opted to stay. Those who left must have their own reasons but still I wonder why they didn't persevere? In today's gospel, three men expressed their intentions to follow Jesus, however they were not completely ready yet due to some prior commitments. Hence they presented their individual alibis for delaying their decisions. Jesus said to the last person: "No one who sets a hand to the plow and looks to what is behind, is fit for the Kingdom of God." Discipleship is not at all easy! There are sacrifices that we need to do and demands that we need to meet. But we must remember that it takes a willing heart and a persevering spirit for one person to stay in the service of the Lord.

¡Saludos desde Filipinas! Para cuando estés leyendo esto, debo estar disfrutando de mis vacaciones con mi familia, que se han retrasado tres años debido a la pandemia. Y ahora todo parece estar normal aquí en mi tierra natal. De todos modos, ¡espero que todos estén en buena forma y que todo esté a salvo! Nos vemos después de un mes! A lo largo de los años, nuestra comunidad ha sido bendecida con personas que expresan sus intenciones de servir a Dios en nuestra Iglesia. Es un signo de las bendiciones de Dios. Sin embargo, noto que no todos perseveran. Alguno desaparecería a los pocos meses mientras que otros optaron por quedarse. Los que se fueron deben tener sus propias razones, pero aun así me pregunto por qué no perseveraron. En el evangelio de hoy, tres hombres expresaron sus intenciones de seguir a Jesús, sin embargo, aún no estaban completamente listos debido a algunos problemas o compromisos previos. Por lo tanto, presentaron sus coartadas individuales para retrasar sus decisiones. Jesús dijo a la última persona: "Nadie que pone la mano en el arado y mira lo que queda atrás es apto para el Reino de Dios". ¡El discipulado no es nada fácil! Hay sacrificios que debemos hacer y demandas que debemos cumplir. Pero debemos recordar que se necesita un corazón dispuesto y un espíritu perseverante para que una persona permanezca en el servicio del Señor.
