SIXTH SUNDAY OF EASTER —C—
Airports have two main sections: the DEPARTURE and the ARRIVAL. We notice that in each section people display two different kinds of emotions. In the ‘ARRIVAL’ section the people are generally joyful and excited because they are waiting for the arrival of someone special to them. On the other side, in the DEPARTURE section, people are mostly emotional and sad because they are seeing the departure of someone they hold dear. It is a sad moment. The context of today’s gospel is like that of the ‘DEPARTURE’ section of an airport. The disciples are emotional, sad and distressed. The Master is leaving them behind. This episode is in preparation for the coming feasts of the ‘Ascension and Pentecost’. We are still dealing with the Lord’s Farewell Discourse in the Last Supper. While Jesus is leaving the disciples behind, he told them that they will still feel his presence through the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in his name. Jesus knows that it will not be easy for the disciples, so he gives them the gift of PEACE. They need peace badly because their hearts are troubled.
6 DOMINGO DE PASCUA —C—
Los aeropuertos tienen dos secciones principales: la SALIDA y la LLEGADA. Notamos que en cada sección las personas muestran dos tipos diferentes de emociones. En la sección de 'LLEGADA' las personas generalmente están alegres y emocionadas porque están esperando la llegada de alguien especial para ellos. Por otro lado, en la sección SALIDA, la gente está mayoritariamente emocionada y triste porque está viendo la partida de alguien querido. Es un momento triste. El contexto del evangelio de hoy es como el de la sección de 'SALIDA' de un aeropuerto. Los discípulos están emocionados, tristes y angustiados. El Maestro los está dejando atrás. Este episodio es una preparación para las próximas fiestas de la 'Ascensión y Pentecostés'. Todavía estamos tratando con el Discurso de despedida del Señor en la Última Cena. Mientras Jesús deja atrás a los discípulos, les dice que aún sentirán su presencia a través del Espíritu Santo que el Padre enviará en su nombre. Jesús sabe que no será fácil para los discípulos por lo que les da el don de la PAZ. Necesitan desesperadamente la paz porque sus corazones están atribulados.
