DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY —A— Last Sunday we celebrated the most important feast in the life of the Church --- EASTER, the resurrection of our Lord and we are now on the second Sunday of Easter which is also designated as DIVINE MERCY SUNDAY. After the crucifixion, the disciples locked themselves in the upper room for fear of the Jewish authorities. These were men who left everything to follow Jesus and joined him in his mission. They witnessed the many times Jesus performed miracles, which no other person can do, and how he preached with authority. But now he’s gone and no one would lead them. Thomas being one of the Twelve was also scared, his fear and disbelief were very human. Most of the time our fear can bring us away from our faith in God and we must remember that prayer is the antidote of fear. We can understand how Thomas reacted to the news, that the other disciples saw Jesus, because he saw how Jesus suffered and died. But on the second time that Jesus appeared to them, he invited Thomas to come closer and see the wound-marks in his hands and the hole in his side. Upon seeing Jesus, Thomas said: “My Lord and my God.” The Divine Mercy is devotion which came about because of the many apparitions of Jesus to a Polish nun Sr. Faustina who is now a saint. In many of the apparitions of Jesus, he tells her to tell the world about his inconceivable mercy as recorded three times in her diary Jesus promised that those who go to Confession and receive communion will receive not only forgiveness of their sins, but the total remission of all temporal punishments for their sins.

DOMINGO DE LA DIVINA MISERICORDIA —A— El domingo pasado celebramos la festa más importante en la vida de la Iglesia --- LA PASCUA, la resurrección de nuestro Señor y ahora estamos en el segundo domingo de Pascua que también se designa como DOMINGO DE LA DIVINA MISERICORDIA. Después de la crucifixión, los discípulos se encerraron en el aposento alto por temor a las autoridades judías. Estos fueron hombres que dejaron todo para seguir a Jesús y se unieron a él en su misión. Fueron testigos de las muchas veces que Jesús realizó milagros, que ninguna otra persona puede hacer, y cómo predicó con autoridad. Pero ahora se ha ido y nadie los guiaría. Tomás siendo uno de los Doce también estaba asustado, su miedo e incredulidad eran muy humanos. La mayoría de las veces nuestro miedo puede alejarnos de nuestra fe en Dios y debemos recordar que la oración es el antídoto del miedo. Podemos entender cómo reaccionó Tomás ante la noticia, que los otros discípulos vieron a Jesús, porque vio cómo Jesús sufrió y murió. Pero en la segunda vez que Jesús se les apareció, invitó a Tomás a acercarse y ver las marcas de heridas en sus manos y el agujero en su costado. Al ver a Jesús, Tomás dijo: “Señor mío y Dios mío”. La Divina Misericordia es una devoción que surgió debido a las muchas apariciones de Jesús a una monja polaca, Sor Faustina, que ahora es santa. En muchas de las apariciones de Jesús, él le dice que le cuente al mundo acerca de su inconcebible misericordia, tal como se registra tres veces en su diario. Jesús prometió que aquellos que se confesen y reciban la comunión recibirán no solo el perdón de sus pecados, sino la remisión total de todos los castigos temporales por sus pecados.
