SECOND SUNDAY OF ADVENT ---C--- 12-5-21
2ND SUNDAY OF ADVENT —C—
How time flies! We are on the second Sunday of Advent. The word ADVENT comes from the Latin word ADVENTUS which literally means COMING. In Greek the term is PAROUSIA. The season of Advent has a two-fold character. First, as a season it prepares us for Christmas day when Christ’s first coming to us is remembered. And second, it leads our hearts and minds to focus on the second coming of the Lord. Therefore, during this season we must reflect with the feeling of expectancy and a joyful anticipation for the coming of our Lord Jesus in his glory. More importantly we must heed the call to change for the better and to be always prepared. Our Gospel this Sunday presents John the Baptist as the voice crying in the desert asking us to “make ready the way of the Lord, clear him a straight path. Every valley shall be filled and every mountain and hill shall be leveled.” The spirit of the season of Advent must be even more relevant and clear during this unprecedented time. Who would have thought that we would live under this miserable condition? This pandemic seemed to have taken our freedom away. Hence the coming of the Lord this Advent season may be compared in a much greater way to the coming of this pandemic. It will be unannounced and whoever is unprepared will surely suffer the consequences.

I am I am always inspired to see people who serve the Church in a very quiet manner. Their simplicity and devotion moves me to work even harder and do even better at my own job. This week I would like to acknowledge the stewardship of Mr. and Mrs. AREND and OLGA BROUWER. They serve the Church together as husband and wife. Olga, together with a few others, runs the Christmas Bazaar and the Rummage Sale. These projects are done annually and generate funds for the Church. Arend on the other hand, offers his God given skill maintaining the campus’ electrical needs for free. Thank you guys, you are truly inspiring! God bless you always.
2 DOMINGO DE ADVIENTO —C—
¡Cómo pasa el tiempo! Estamos en el segundo domingo de Adviento. La palabra ADVENT proviene de la palabra latina ADVENTUS que literalmente significa VENIDA. En griego, el término es PAROUSIA. La temporada de Adviento tiene un carácter doble. Primero, como temporada nos prepara para el día de Navidad cuando se recuerda la primera venida de Cristo. Y segundo, lleva nuestros corazones y mentes a enfocarse en la segunda venida del Señor. Por lo tanto, durante este tiempo debemos reflexionar con el sentimiento de expectación y una anticipación gozosa por la venida de nuestro Señor Jesús en su gloria. Más importante aún, debemos prestar atención al llamado a cambiar para mejor y estar siempre preparados. Nuestro Evangelio de este domingo presenta a Juan el Bautista como la voz que clama en el desierto pidiéndonos que “preparen el camino del Señor, límplenle un camino recto. Todo valle se rellenará y todo monte y collado será nivelado ". El espíritu del tiempo de Adviento debe ser aún más relevante y claro durante este tiempo sin precedentes. ¿Quién hubiera pensado que viviríamos en esta miserable condición? Esta pandemia parecía habernos quitado la libertad. Por lo tanto, la venida del Señor en esta temporada de Adviento puede compararse de una manera mucho mayor con la venida de esta pandemia. No se anunciará y quien no esté preparado seguramente sufrirá las consecuencias.

Siempre me inspira ver a las personas que sirven a la Iglesia de una manera muy tranquila. Su sencillez y devoción me impulsa a trabajar aún más duro y hacerlo aún mejor en mi propio trabajo. Esta semana me gustaría agradecer la administración del Sr. y la Sra. AREND y OLGA BROUWER. Sirven a la Iglesia juntos como marido y mujer. Olga, junto con algunos otros, dirige el Bazar de Navidad y la Venta de artículos usados. Estos proyectos se realizan anualmente y generan fondos para la Iglesia. Arend, por otro lado, ofrece su habilidad dada por Dios para mantener las necesidades eléctricas del campus de forma gratuita. ¡Gracias chicos, son realmente inspiradores! Dios te bendiga siempre.
