TWENTY-FIRST SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME ---A---
The theme of the Gospel this Sunday is ecclesiological as it focuses on the Church which is the community of the disciples that is being equipped with authority and structures that will enable it to function during the time when Jesus will no longer be with them in human form they have known. In the First Reading Eliakim foreshadowed Peter’s appointment as symbolized by a key. It emphasizes the importance and the supremacy of Peter as the head of the Church. His leadership is anchored from the depth of his knowledge of Christ as he confesses: “You are the Christ the Son of the living God” (Mt 16:16). Peter’s confession brings out special connection of Jesus to the Father. And it was God himself who revealed it to him the knowledge that is beyond any human comprehension. The Church which was built on the apostolic foundation signifies ‘strength’ like ‘rock’ that even the netherworld can’t prevail over it. Reflecting on the Gospel this Sunday I can’t help but think of our own parish and our new church building. Did you notice how massive and sturdy its looks? It is a reflection of what the Church as the mystical body of Christ should be. It is strong and sturdy because it is built in solid apostolic foundation. Once again, as your pastor, I would like to remind you of your obligation in support of our new church building. We are almost there. Just a little increase in your weekly offering and we will be able to meet our monthly obligation. I hope and pray that you will always put our church on your list of priorities. May the Lord grant the desires of your hearts and may He love you dearly!

El tema del Evangelio de este domingo es eclesiológico, ya que se centra en la Iglesia, que es la comunidad de los discípulos que está siendo dotada de autoridad y estructuras que le permitirán funcionar durante el tiempo en que Jesús ya no estará con ellos en forma humana que ellos han conocido. En la primera lectura, Eliakim presagió el nombramiento de Pedro simbolizado por una llave. Destaca la importancia y la supremacía de Pedro como cabeza de la Iglesia. Su liderazgo se basa en la profundidad de su conocimiento de Cristo cuando confiesa: “Tú eres el Cristo, el Hijo del Dios viviente” (Mt 16,16). La confesión de Pedro resalta una conexión especial de Jesús con el Padre. Y fue Dios mismo quien le reveló el conocimiento que está más allá de cualquier comprensión humana. La Iglesia que fue construida sobre el fundamento apostólico significa "fuerza" como "roca" que ni siquiera el inframundo puede prevalecer sobre ella. Reflexionando sobre el Evangelio este domingo, no puedo evitar pensar en nuestra propia parroquia y en el nuevo edificio de nuestra iglesia. ¿Te diste cuenta de lo enorme y robusto que se ve? Es un reflejo de lo que debería ser la Iglesia como cuerpo místico de Cristo. Es fuerte y robusto porque está construido sobre sólidos cimientos apostólicos. Una vez más, como su pastor, me gustaría recordarle su obligación de apoyar la construcción de nuestra nueva iglesia. Estamos casi alli. Solo un pequeño aumento en su oferta semanal y podremos cumplir con nuestra obligación mensual. Espero y rezo para que siempre ponga a nuestra iglesia en su lista de prioridades. ¡Que el Señor les conceda los deseos de sus corazones y los ame profundamente!
