THIRD SUNDAY IN LENT ---C---
The story of the salvation of God’s people continues during this Lenten season. In the first reading we hear Moses’ encounter with God at the burning bush. The fire symbolizes the presence of God. What personal experience can you consider as your personal experience of God? Are we even aware of the presence of God in many instances of our lives?
St. Paul establishes a parallel between the situation of the Israelite in the desert and the Corinthians. Paul wants to remind us that we are not saved merely because we happen to have been the recipients of God’s free grace. We have to demonstrate that we are willing recipients of that free gift. The Israelites received it but they proved to be unworthy of it.
In our Gospel the Lord stresses that we need to produce plenty of fruits in keeping with the grace we have received. He tells us that God waits patiently for our fruits to appear. God does not want death of the sinner; He wants him to be converted and live!
Remember God’s clemency should not lead us to neglect our duties and become lazy and complacent Christians. Yes He is merciful but He is also a just God who will punish those who will not respond to His grace.
I am always inspired to see married couples who are serving the Lord together and our parish has a number of them. But this week I want to acknowledge the stewardship of Michael and Lisa Moon who serve the Lord together. Michael serves as a hospitality minister, and is also a member of the Knights of Columbus, while Lisa serves as a lector and a commentator. This couple never fails to inspire me. Thank you Mike and Lisa and may your example draw more couple to the Eucharist. Thank you and God bless!
TERCER DOMINGO DE CUARESMA ---C---
La historia de la salvación del pueblo de Dios continúa durante este tiempo de Cuaresma. En la primera lectura escuchamos el encuentro de Moisés con Dios en la zarza ardiente. El fuego simboliza la presencia de Dios. ¿Qué experiencia personal puedes considerar como tu experiencia personal de Dios? ¿Somos siquiera conscientes de la presencia de Dios en muchos casos de nuestras vidas?
San Pablo establece un paralelo entre la situación del israelita en el desierto y la de los corintios. Pablo quiere recordarnos que no somos salvos simplemente porque hayamos sido recipientes de la gracia gratuita de Dios. Tenemos que demostrar que estamos dispuestos a recibir ese regalo gratuito. Los israelitas la recibieron pero resultaron indignos de ella.
En nuestro Evangelio el Señor subraya que necesitamos producir abundantes frutos conforme a la gracia que hemos recibido. Nos dice que Dios espera pacientemente a que aparezcan nuestros frutos. Dios no quiere la muerte del pecador; ¡Quiere que se convierta y viva!
Recuerde que la clemencia de Dios no debe llevarnos a descuidar nuestros deberes y convertirnos en cristianos perezosos y complacientes. Sí, Él es misericordioso, pero también es un Dios justo que castigará a aquellos que no respondan a Su gracia.
Siempre me inspira ver parejas casadas que sirven juntas al Señor y nuestra parroquia tiene varias de ellas. Pero esta semana quiero reconocer la mayordomía de Michael y Lisa Moon, quienes juntos sirven al Señor. Michael se desempeña como ministro de hospitalidad y también es miembro de los Caballeros de Colón, mientras que Lisa se desempeña como lectora y comentarista. Esta pareja nunca deja de inspirarme. Gracias Mike y Lisa y que su ejemplo atraiga a más parejas a la Eucaristía. ¡Gracias y Dios te bendiga!
