EIGHTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME —C—
Jesus is a teacher ‘par excellence’. He knows how to attract the attention of his students and listeners. Part of his methodology is the use of parables. Parables are ordinary life stories which contain important lessons. He uses parables moving the people to refect which eventually leads to understanding. In fact, this Sunday we listen to a series of parables which is the third and fnal section of the Sermon on the Plain. Each parable teaches how to be a good disciple. In the gospel Jesus asked his disciples the following: ‘Can a blind person guide another blind person? Will not both of them fall into the pit? He also told them that ‘no disciple is superior to the teacher, but when fully trained every disciple will be like his teacher.’ Again he asked them ‘why do you notice the splinter in your brother’s eye but do not perceive the wooden beam in your own?’ He also said, ‘a good tree does not bear rotten fruits nor does a rotten tree bear good fruits.’ Can a blind man guide another blind man? There are people who, despite the lack of knowledge on Christian doctrines, fnd tons of fault in the offcial teachings of the Church. And it’s even worse when that person who knows only little, pretends to know more and pushing others to adhere to what he believes in. Moreover, a disciple who is willing to spend more time with his teacher is more likely to be at par with his teacher. Finally, it is really easy to fnd fault in others and easier to overlook our own.
Danke, grazie, gracias, salamat po are a number of ways to say ‘thank you’. These words I want to say to MR. AND MRS. GARY AND BARBARA SADNICK for being good and faithful stewards to our community. They have been part of Resurrection community for many years and have been very active stewards of God’s gifts. They are involved in several ministries in our Church. Both of them are Eucharistic ministers and money counters. Barbara also helps in the Annual Catholic Appeal. May the Lord repay your kindness and May God love you dearly!
8 DOMINGO DE TIEMPO ORDINARIO —C—
Jesús es un maestro “por excelencia”. Sabe cómo atraer la atención de sus alumnos y oyentes. Parte de su metodología es el uso de parábolas. Las parábolas son historias de vida ordinarias que contienen lecciones importantes. Él usa parábolas que mueven a la gente a refexionar, lo que eventualmente conduce a la comprensión. De hecho, este domingo escuchamos una serie de parábolas que es la tercera y última sección del Sermón de la Llanura. Cada parábola enseña cómo ser un buen discípulo. En el evangelio Jesús preguntó a sus discípulos lo siguiente: '¿Puede un ciego guiar a otro ciego? ¿No caerán ambos en el hoyo? También les dijo que "ningún discípulo es superior al maestro, pero cuando esté completamente capacitado, todo discípulo será como su maestro". Nuevamente les preguntó: "¿Por qué notan la astilla en el ojo de su hermano pero no perciben la viga de madera en el tuyo?' También dijo: 'no da frutos malos el árbol bueno, ni da frutos buenos el árbol podrido.' ¿Puede un ciego guiar a otro ciego? Hay personas que a pesar de la falta de conocimiento sobre las doctrinas cristianas encuentran toneladas de fallas en las enseñanzas ofciales de la Iglesia. Y es aún peor cuando esa persona que sabe poco fnge saber más y empuja a los demás a adherirse a lo que él cree. Además, es más probable que un discípulo que está dispuesto a pasar más tiempo con su maestro esté a la par con su maestro. Finalmente, es muy fácil encontrar fallas en los demás y más fácil pasar por alto las nuestras.

GARRY Y BARBARA SADNICK por ser buenos y feles administradores de nuestra comunidad. Han sido parte de la comunidad de Resurrection durante muchos años y han sido administradores muy activos de los dones de Dios. Están involucrados en varios ministerios en nuestra Iglesia. Ambos son ministros eucarísticos y contadores de dinero. Barbara también ayuda en la Campaña Católica Anual. ¡Que el Señor recompense tu bondad y que Dios te ame mucho!
