SEVENTH SUNDAY OF ORDINARY TIME —C—
Jesus has his unique way of disturbing people to make them refect and discover the hidden lesson people have the power to do, especially when asking for God’s help. This is in line with his words in the gospels these past few Sundays. Last Sunday we were told to fnd happiness in the opposite of wealth, money, power and prestige. He even told us that the poor and the less fortunate are blessed, because in the end, they will fnd favor with God. This Sunday we are shaken even more, as we are told to go the way of unconditional love, not only for our friends, but for our enemies. This is indeed a very hard teaching. We are told to do what seems to be unnatural and unthinkable for ordinary human beings. But just as we think that this is impossible to do, Jesus provides us with threefold motivation for these challenging teachings. First, Jesus quotes the golden rule: ‘do to others as you would have them do to you.’ This means that all human beings, both victims and perpetrators, deserve human treatment sharing the same dignity regardless of their behavior. Second, since God is kind to the ungrateful and the wicked, so also God’s children ought to extend their kindness and mercy, not only to their friends, but also to their enemies. Finally, Jesus reminds us that ‘the measure you give will be the same measure you get back.’ It means that you will receive exactly what you give!
I have been praying for more workers for the vineyard because the harvest is really rich. And true enough, our community is becoming a rich seedbed of stewards. This week I want to recognize the stewardship of MR. AND MRS. ELI AND CORA SEGISMAR who as a couple have been very involved in a number of ministries. Both of them are Eucharistic Ministers, while Cora is also a sacristan. They are also involved in the Filipino Food Ministry where they help in the kitchen when it is their turn to serve at the FOOD SALE. Thank you to the both you!
7 DOMINGO DE TIEMPO ORDINARIO —C— Jesús tiene su forma única de perturbar a las personas para que refexionen y descubran la lección oculta que las personas tienen el poder de hacer, especialmente cuando piden la ayuda de Dios. Esto está en línea con sus palabras en los evangelios estos últimos domingos. El domingo pasado se nos dijo que encontráramos la felicidad en lo opuesto a la riqueza, el dinero, el poder y el prestigio. Incluso nos dijo que los pobres y los menos afortunados son bendecidos porque al fnal encontrarán el favor de Dios. Este domingo somos sacudidos aún más cuando se nos dice que sigamos el camino del amor incondicional no solo por nuestros amigos sino también por nuestros enemigos. Esta es ciertamente una enseñanza muy dura. Se nos dice que hagamos lo que parece antinatural e impensable para el ser humano común. Pero así como pensamos que esto es imposible de hacer, Jesús nos proporciona una motivación triple para estas enseñanzas desafantes. Primero, Jesús cita la regla de oro: 'haz a los demás lo que te gustaría que te hicieran a ti'. Esto signifca que todos los seres humanos, tanto víctimas como perpetradores, merecen un trato humano compartiendo la misma dignidad independientemente de su comportamiento. Segundo, dado que Dios es bondadoso con los ingratos y los malvados, los hijos de Dios también deben extender su bondad y misericordia no solo a sus amigos sino también a sus enemigos. Finalmente, Jesús nos recuerda que 'la medida que des será la misma medida que recibas'. ¡Signifca que recibirás exactamente lo que das!
He estado orando por más trabajadores para la viña porque la cosecha es muy rica. Y es cierto que nuestra comunidad se está convirtiendo en un rico semillero de administradores. Esta semana quiero reconocer la administración de SR. Y SRA. ELI Y CORA SEGISMAR quienes como pareja han estado muy involucradas en varios ministerios. Ambos son Ministros Eucarísticos mientras que Cora es también sacristán. También están involucrados en el Ministerio de Alimentos de Filipinas, donde ayudan en la cocina cuando es su turno de servir en la VENTA DE COMIDA. ¡Gracias a los dos!
