FOURTH SUNDAY OF EASTER —C—
Today’s one of the most appealing and beautiful images of Jesus, that of the Good Shepherd. The image gives us the feeling of being loved, protected and cared for. Hence, the fourth Sunday of Easter is called “Good Shepherd Sunday”. By using the metaphor of the good shepherd, Jesus sets himself apart for all the shepherds who work only for pay. They never truly care for the flock so much, that when wolves attack they would run away and leave the flock behind. But the good shepherd surely stays and protects his flock from the attack. Another amazing trait of the good shepherd is that the flock recognizes his voice and they listen to him. In Palestine pasture has no fences. The shepherd wanders with his flock, and leads the sheep where he will. A good shepherd can call each sheep by name and the call will be heard by the sheep, which really belongs to that flock. If we belong to his flock, then we will listen to his voice and allow him to lead us to where we all should be.
4 DOMINGO DE PASCUA —C—
Una de las imágenes más atractivas y bellas de Jesús es la del Buen Pastor. La imagen nos da la sensación de ser amados, protegidos y cuidados. De ahí que el cuarto domingo de Pascua se denomine “Domingo del Buen Pastor”. Al usar la metáfora del buen pastor, Jesús se distingue de todos los pastores que trabajan solo por una paga. Nunca se preocupan tanto por el rebaño que cuando los lobos atacan, huyen y dejan el rebaño atrás. Pero el buen pastor seguramente se queda y protege a su rebaño del ataque. Otro rasgo asombroso del buen pastor es que el rebaño reconoce su voz y lo escuchan. En Palestina los pastos no tienen cercas. El pastor se pasea con su rebaño, y lleva a las ovejas a donde quiere. Un buen pastor puede llamar a cada oveja por su nombre y la llamada será escuchada por la oveja que realmente pertenece a ese rebaño. Si pertenecemos a su rebaño entonces escucharemos su voz.
